Grief Resources

Westcott Funeral Home offers several forms of aftercare assistance to those who have suffered a loss:

Our Living with Loss Program is two fold:

One is our One Day Seminars offered three times a year:

Living with Loss: During this season of renewal: is offered shortly before Easter. It is designed for those who now must face this holiday plus the coming spring and summer seasons and the social obligations they bring.

Living with Loss: During this season of change: is offered around Labor Day to assist those facing the autumn and winter seasons and the feeling of isolation that it brings.

Living with Loss: During the Holiday Season: is offered at the difficult time of year for anyone who has suffered a loss.

We begin these sessions at 10 AM with a presentation and explanation of the feelings you may be experiencing and the dangers of them and the ways to face them in a healthy manner. This is followed by small group discussions where you can share with people who have also suffered a loss and probably are experiencing the same issues. This is followed by a lunch where you can break bread with new friends and receive physical nourishment to accompany your emotional encouragement. There is no cost to these sessions and reservations are not necessary.

We also offer Living with Loss: A six week journey: For six consecutive weeks (usually following the quarterly one day presentations) we meet on Tuesdays between 4-5:30 Pm at the Cottonwood Senior Center. Each week has a different theme and a variety of helping tips and methods to help you adjust to your loss. Many friendships are made and these gatherings have become quite popular. A light supper follows. Again, there is no cost and no reservations are necessary.

Our facilitator for all of these sessions is Elaine Rankin, PsyD, R.N. whose enthusiasm is encouraging and compassion is comforting to those in pain.

Living with the Loss of a child: For those who have experienced the loss a child at any age, you may find support from the local Compassionate Friends chapter. TCF Verde Valley Chapter meets at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 901 S. 12th St., Cottonwood. For more information contact janetk@cwbanker.com

We also have a grief resource library at our Cottonwood chapel with many books, videos, pamphlets and tapes discussing a variety of grief topics and to assist those facing difficult losses.
