Alberta M. Byrd

Alberta M. Byrd, 84 of Cottonwood, passed away at home on Sunday, February 19, 2012. She was born on September 1, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI to James Albert Demerest and Orba Dorris Disbrow Demerest. Alberta attended Phoenix Union and the Bryan School of Business. She worked for a phone company, cannery and the Alhambra School District in Phoenix, AZ. Alberta was a Sunday school teacher. She belonged to the Eastern Star. Alberta enjoyed ballroom dancing, square dancing and sewing. She was a very loving mother, sister and wife. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jack" E. Byrd. She is survived by sons Ken Byrd (Elizabeth) of Indianapolis, IN and Rick Byrd (Cheryl) of Show Low, AZ; brothers Gordon Demerest of Coldwater, MI, Wayne Demerest of Mesa, AZ, Jim Demerest of Albuquerque, NM, Jack Demerest of San Jose, CA, and Clifford Demerest of Mesa, AZ; sisters Dorothy Reeves of Roseburg, OR and Pat Long of Mesa, AZ; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchilren.
