Alberta Marie Mills, 89, passed away in Cottonwood, Arizona on September 8, 2011, where she had lived since 2009. She was born on February 24, 1922, in Marietta, Ohio, to the late Howard E. Kaneff and Jennie Hagan Kaneff. She spent most of her life in Marietta, Ohio, before moving to Toledo, Ohio in 2001 to be closer to her family. Alberta graduated from Marietta High School in 1939. She was married to Robert Mills on August 31, 1946, who preceded her in death in November 1991. She is survived by two sons, Gerald (Jerry) Mills (Rebecca Bauer) of Haymarket, Virginia and Dwight Mills (Cindi) of Cornville, Arizona; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Gilbert (Marjorie) Shears of Marietta and Mrs. Paul (Bernice) Nesper of Yorktown, Indiana; two half sisters, Judith Kaneff and Barbara Ratner of Marietta, Georgia, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert , her sister Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Goodwill, and her stepmother Olive Kaneff and half-sister Mary Spikes. Alberta was employed by numerous companies throughout her life, including First Bank of Marietta, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, the Washington County Auditor\u0027s Office, Marietta College, and Alfco Chemical Company. She was an avid reader and enjoyed both quilting and doing crewel work. She was proud of the accomplishment of completing a handmade quilt for each of her 6 grandchildren before arthritis kept her from continuing the hobbies she loved. She also enjoyed gardening, growing both flowers and vegetables, for all to enjoy. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Marietta and various school related groups, including the PTA. Services will be at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel 1021 Pike Street Marietta, OH, on Thursday, September 15th, at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Gerald Morgan officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park in Reno. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, September 14th, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Donations in Alberta\u0027s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 301 Fourth Street, in Marietta or Hospice of the Pines, 13175 E.
