Alpha Louise Thompson, 89, a long time resident of this area, died 26 of January, 2006 at Cottonwood Verde Valley Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents Emery and Gertrude Kurtz, her husband Guy Thompson, sisters Helen Kurtz, Florence Krebs, Gertrude Thompson, and brother Walter Kurtz. She is survived by four daughters: Louise Biddy of Texas, Carol Godard and son-in-law Don of Cornville, AZ, Janet M. Cluff of Clarkdale, AZ, and Eleanor Schoenberger and son-in-law Paul of Clarkdale, AZ, a sister Grace Jones of St. David, AZ, a brother Roy Kurtz of Cottonwood, AZ, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren. Also many nephews and nieces. Alpha was born on the 13 of August, 1916 at Alhambra in the Phoenix area. She started the first grade at Cashion School. She attended part of the second grade at Murphy School, but was moved to Alhambra School and then she went to Washington School. All of these schools were in the Phoenix are. Then her family moved to Big Park, now called Village of Oak Creek where her parents homesteaded and she finished 6th, 7th, and 8th grades at the Big Park School. Then in 1992 at the age of 76 she decided to attend classes to get her G.E.D. certificate. She received it on the 27 of May 1992. She loved to travel throughout the states and also to several countries outside of the USA. She had a great love for music performances and she attended the Grand Ole Opry and went to Branson, MO several times. She also took knitting classes from Betty Kent. She liked to do latch hook work, putting saw puzzles together and play bingo. Memorial services for Alpha will be Saturday, February 4 at 10:00 AM at Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E.
