Alvera Irene Pieper, 89 resident of Cottonwood, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008. She was born September 20, 1918 in Huntingburg, IN to Henry and Marie (Milton) Stieneker. Alvera attended Duff Elementary School and graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1937. Following which she attended Arizona State University where she received her Bachelors Degree in Art. She was an accomplished artist in arts and water color; especially with flowers. Professionally, Alvera worked as a stenographer for the Agriculture Department and Veterans Administration. Alvera is survived by two sons, Charles Pieper Jr. of Tonopah, AZ and Michael Pieper of Phoenix; her daughter Charlotte Pokorski (Arnold) of Cottonwood; two half-sisters, Mildred Koon of Indianapolis, IN, and Margie Jean Johnson of Mechanicsville, VA; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Pieper; 3 half-brothers; and her parents. Private family services will be held in Huntingburg, IN.
