1938 - 2025

Anna Jo Coker, a 40 year resident of Cottonwood, AZ beloved mother of eight, grandmother of 12, and great grandmother of 19, many of whom knew her as “Grannie,” passed away in her home surrounded by family on March 8, 2025.

Ann, as she was known to most, was born March 21, 1938 in Floydada, TX. After running a restaurant in Texas, she became a bookkeeper and eventually ended up as Comptroller at Mingus Union High School until retirement.

Ann was an avid reader, and loved basketball (Phoenix Suns), as well as English history, and the BBC. She was known by the community as a gracious, kind and loving person. She will truly be missed by family, friends, neighbors and community.

Ann was a devoted mother to and survived by her children, Cheryl Cumberledge (Jim Crump), Stacey Nicholson, Jeff Coker (Janet), Elizabeth Roy (Wayne Cleall), Tracy Blackford (Robin), and Val Matkovich (Paul Adams); 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and other cherished family members, Sara "Sally" Coker, Rosemary Coker (Mark Cohen), and Diane Coker. Anna Jo is preceded in death by two adoring husbands, Hollis Coker and Jimmie Goucher, and two sons, Terry and Mark Coker.

Though her departure leaves an unfillable void in their lives, Ann’s family finds comfort in the memories and everlasting love they shared. She will be deeply missed by her family, many friends, and all who knew her.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 18th, at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 until the time of service. Following the service, Anna Jo will be laid to rest at Cottonwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Al-Anon and/or ASPCA in her name.
