Bessie Lorene Portrey

Bessie Lorene Portrey, 76, of Cottonwood, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007. Bessie was born April 21, 1930 in Lawrence County, Missouri to Phoebe and William Cantrell. She moved with her family to Miami, Oklahoma when she was about 5 years old; where she lived until she met and married Robert Portrey on May 21, 1947. During her married life, they lived in numerous places including Miami and Fairland, Oklahoma; Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska; Sandy, Portland, and Jefferson, Oregon. Bessie enjoyed flowers, reading, and talking with the many people who came into her life. She also felt that life was interesting and there was always so much to learn. Her family was the main focus of her life and she never quit "raising" her five sons. Bessie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Portrey; she leaves behind her five sons, Robert J. Portrey of Rimrock, David Portrey, Daniel Portrey, and Timothy Portrey, all of Cottonwood, and William Portrey of Cornville; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
