Bill Diamond, 89 of Cottonwood, passed away September 14, 2016. He was born August 15, 1927 in Ranger, Texas, the son of James Alva Diamond and Mary E. Mathis Diamond. Bill attended school in Ranger, TX and Woodlake, CA. He served his country during WWII as a Merchant Marine. Bill was the owner and operator of Diamond\u0027s Market in Woodlake for 20 years. He was a meat salesman and also worked for Harris Ranch Beef for 20 years. Bill was a Woodlake City Councilman for 24 years and Mayor for 12 of them. He was also a past president of the Woodlake Lions Club, member of the Chamber of Commerce, volunteer fireman and ambulance and Woodlake\u0027s Man of the Year in 1992. Bill attended Clarkdale Baptist Church. Bill enjoyed hiking, the history of the "Old West" of which he became an expert in, exploring ghost towns and old cemeteries and traveling in their 5th wheel. Bill was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma; daughters Gayle Bearden (David) of El Dorado Hills, CA and Billie German (Jim) of Prescott; 4 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Mary; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. A memorial service will be held for Bill at Clarkdale Baptist Church, 1051 State Route 89A in Clarkdale on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2:00pm.
