Burton W. ''Bill'' Cameron

Burton W. \u0027\u0027Bill\u0027\u0027 Cameron, 79, a longtime resident of the Verde Valley passed away Monday, January 31 in Phoenix after a courageous battle with Parkinson\u0027s Disease. An Arizona native, he was born in Globe, Arizona on October 5, 1925, the son of Harold and Katherine \u0027\u0027Babe\u0027\u0027 Cameron. After graduation from Flagstaff High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific in World War II. He graduated from Arizona State College majoring in English. Bill was a former owner and publisher of the Verde Independent. Upon the sale of the paper he worked in real estate and ran the local Sears catalogue order store. After retirement he was president of the Association of Retarded Citizens and was instrumental in upgrading the care of the mentally challenged of Arizona. He loved to fish and enjoyed his time in Rocky point, Mexico where he could enjoy the ocean. He was preceded in death by his wife Maribelle and is survived by daughters, Carole Hubbart of Texas, Janet Cameron of Coolidge, and his brother Kenneth and wife gay of Mesa. A Memorial Service is planned for 10 AM Friday, February 4 in the Westcott Funeral Home with interment to follow Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Flagstaff Cemetery.
