Byron Luther Hartlley

Byron Luther Hartley, 79, resident of Cottonwood, Arizona, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Infinia in Cottonwood. He was born on March 20, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to James William Hartley and Harriet Merritt Hartley. Byron lived in earlier years and graduated from public schools in Arcadia, California. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asian-Pacific area. After military service, he combined his artistic skill with his mechanical ability to become a draftsman, designing and drawing detailed plans for various parts, tools, and machines for several manufacturers. He worked on a team effort designing a part of the Hubble Space Telescope and retired from a self-employed metal fabrication business. Before moving to Cottonwood, he was active for many years in the Arcadia, CA Jaycees. Byron had many interests that varied greatly and he enjoyed talking with friends on these subjects. Family and friends alike will miss his beautiful, deep-bass singing voice at the Cottonwood Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church and in gathering with friends. Byron is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane; and his son, Byron Del. Surviving are his daughter, Bonnie of Oregon; his grandson, also of Oregon; his brother, James Hartley of Washington; and his sister, Leota Schofield of Oregon. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Allagheny Weseyan Methodist Church, 1691 Rainbow Rd., in Cottonwood, AZ. Byron will be laid to rest at the Arizona National Memorial Cemetery for Veterans in Cavecreek, Arizona. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
