Calvin F. Clark

Calvin Frederick Clark died August 10. He was born May 5, 1924 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to John C. Clark (a native American Indian) and Elizabeth Zarelda (Johnson) Clark. During his lifetome, Cal survived many challenges; a childhood without a father, depression-era poverty, limited education, the loss of a spouse and two wars. In spite of these hardships he never developed a bitter heart. Without the the influence of a father figure, somewhere along the way Cal decide to take Will Rodgers as his role model. He even joined the circus, rode elephants, hopped freight trains and ran with hobos throughout the wheat fields of Kansas. He was an Army Infantry veteran, serving in World War II and Korea. He served as personal cook and bodyguard for General Omar Bradley for a time. After the service, Cal worked for over 35 years driving a bakery truck for Kilpatrick and Rainbo bakeries in Texas and California. He enjoyed fishing, football, cards, country music, collecting elephants and John Wayne movies. He and his wife toured many of the the National Parks. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Monica; his children, Michael Clark, Cynthia Clark Springer, Heidi Duncan, Marcia Krone, Lisa Angell, Karen Curia, Martha Bocchichio, John North and twenty-two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Richard Fulkerson and sisters, Mavis Fulkerson and Rosalie Jones. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Merle, in 1980. A funeral service will be held Friday, August 15 in the Peace Lutheran Church at 9 AM. A graveside servce will be held in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix at 12:30 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church, 1450 E. Fir St., Cottonwood 86326. Westcott Funeral Home directed these arrangements.
