Cortez "Corky" Oxendale, 93, resident of Cottonwood, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2007 in Phoenix. She was born June 21, 1914 in Mills City, Texas to Jesse Ferguson and Lucretia Melvina (Ward) Atchison. Throughout Corky's entire life, no matter what she encountered; whether it was an adventure or a challenge, a role, a job or any other task, she gave her full effort. Corky was a doting wife, she was the greatest example of God's definition of what a woman is; she was truly her husband's helpmate and without a question; "The Better Half". She was a loving and devoted mother. She took great pride in her family, her home, and herself-she was always dressed "To the Nines"! She had an extensive doll collection, and she enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a member of the Clarkdale Women's Club and a faithful member of the Verde Baptist Church for 27 years. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, William Ash. Corky leaves behind her second husband of 28 years, Roy Oxendale of Cottonwood; three sons, Billy with his wife, Carmen of Clarkdale, Lewis Ash with his wife, Beth of Powell, Ohio, and Ronnie Ash with his wife, Millie of Phoenix; two step-daughters, Mary Sievert with her husband, Scott of Chandler, and Jane Strong with her husband, Craig of Prescott Valley; two Step-sons, Tom Oxendale with his wife, Pam of Cottonwood, and Rob Oxendale with his wife, Denise of Peoria; 16 grandchildren and 20 Great-Grandchildren. A Visitation will take place at the Verde Baptist Church in Cottonwood on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 1:00pm; with the Funeral Service to follow at 2:00pm.
