Daniel Hardy Stephens

Daniel “Dan/Danny” Stephens, a devoted Christian, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather (POP), educator, and friend, entered his eternal home on December 27, 2024. His 79 years on earth were marked by unwavering faith, selfless service, and deep love for his family, friends, and community. 

Born in 1945 to Venita and Eugene Stephens in Safford, Arizona. Dan dedicated over 30 years to education, inspiring countless students and colleagues with his passion for learning. He served as a teacher and administrator, always advocating for knowledge and spiritual growth. Beyond his professional achievements, Dan was a steadfast leader in his church, serving as a deacon and leading Bible studies that challenged and encouraged those around him to seek God’s truth. 

Dan married the love of his life and together they built a family rooted in love and faith. Their 55-year marriage was a testament to their devotion to one another and to God. As a father to two daughters and a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Dan was a constant source of wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering support. He cherished every moment with his family, ensuring he was present for every milestone and celebration. 

In addition to his professional and spiritual endeavors, Dan was a talented woodworker, an enthusiastic gardener, and even a “chicken whisperer.” After retiring, he continued to share his gifts, consulting for charter schools and perfecting his craft in his workshop. Whether cultivating his garden or mentoring others, Dan approached every task with passion and purpose. 

Dan’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He led a weekly Bible study for his friends, offering not only insights but also prayers that lifted and strengthened those around him. He lived out his favorite scripture, Matthew 25:21, as a faithful servant of the Lord, whose life was a reflection of God’s love and grace. 

Dan’s legacy of love, wisdom, and faith will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He is survived by his sister Ruby Tippets and brother Archie Stephens as well as his two daughters Heather Switzer and Nicole Barrier, 2 son-in laws Dan Switzer and Chris Barrier and , three grandchildren Trenton, Bristol and Brayden, and a host of family and friends who will miss him deeply. 

A celebration of Dan’s life and faith will be held on February 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Journey Church, 750 E. Mingus Ave., Cottonwood, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse, a cause close to Dan’s heart, at https://www.samaritanspurse.org.
