DAROLD D. HAYDEN, age 70, of Cottonwood, Arizona passed away September 30, 2006. Darold was born May 12, 1936 in Newton, Kansas to Herb H. Hayden and Lucy (Davis) Hayden. He grew up on a farm in Anderson County, Kansas. He attended Iantha rural school, a one room schoolhouse, through the 8th grade. He graduated from Garnett High School in 1954. Darold married Norma R. Pierce on January 5, 1958. They were married for 48 ½ years. After serving his country in the Army in Germany from 1958-1960, the young couple made their home in Harris Kansas. Later they moved to Garnett, Kansas, where they made their home for the following 40 years. He was proud of his Midwestern upbringing, values and work ethic which he passed along to this family. Darold held many professional positions in his lifetime. He delivered propane throughout Anderson County, Kansas. He sold real estate for many years. He owned several businesses in Garnett, Kansas including the Burgerteria restaurant, the local Dairy Queen and prior to retirement in 2001, he and his wife Norma owned and operated H \u0026 H Auto Sales. No matter what endeavor Darold may have been involved in, his passion was serving people. He thrived when he was able to see a need and then devise a way to fill it. He was widely recognized at his memorial service for the times he had positively impacted a person\u0027s life or served as their mentor. With an ornery grin and a twinkle in his eye, he had delivered food, clothing, sage advice and car parts on countless occasions. He was quick to come to the aid of those in need. Darold was a member of the First Christian Church of Garnett, Kansas for over 50 years. While in Cottonwood, Arizona he attended Evangel Worship Center and The Garden Community Church. Darold was quite active in church outreach activities. He had become a well-known face in the community and loved to invite new acquaintances to join him for a church service or special activity. Darold was a proud member of the American Legion, Verde Valley post 25. He developed an enthusiasm for performing karaoke at the Legion every Friday night. His other hobbies included fishing, sight-seeing and an occasional well-planned practical joke. He had a special place in his heart for each and every one of his grandchildren and attended as many of their events as he could manage. Darold is survived and greatly missed by: Wife: Norma Hayden of Cottonwood, Arizona. Three Daughters: Brenda Meir of Phoenix, Arizona; Denise Wiscombe of Overbrook, Kansas; and Stacey Hayden of Cottonwood, Arizona. Six Grandchildren: Jeremiah Nilges of Phoenix, Arizona; Ashley Wiscombe of Kansas City, Kansas; Candace Vickers of Cottonwood, Arizona; Krystal Wiscombe of Manhattan, Kansas; Kasey Wiscombe of Manhattan, Kansas; and Matthew Hayden of Cottonwood, Arizona. One Great-grandson: Alexander Hayden Pumphrey of Cottonwood, Arizona. Two Brothers: Bob Hayden of Garnett, Kansas; and Dwight Hayden of Loveland, Colorado.
