Darrell Lane Harris, 83, resident of Cottonwood, Passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2007. He was born June 2, 1923 in Weott, California to Charles Benjamin and Nettie Mae (Hedden) Harris. Darrell attended grammar school through high school at the Fortuna Schools, following which; he attended the Coyne Electric School and Sacramento State College. Darrell also served his country during WWII in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-1946. He worked with the Roseville, California Police Department from 1952-1957, and from 1957-1978 he was with the State of California Department of Motor Vehicle. During the early 1950's, Darrell also owned a Radio and T.V. Repair Shop and a Mobile Locksmith Business. Aside from his business ambitions, Darrell enjoyed woodworking, gardening, exploring, electronics, rebuilding antique cars, and learning how most things worked from the inside-out! He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, and a member of the Moose and Elk's Lodges. One very fond event in Darrell's life was a one-year R.V. trip around the United States. Darrell is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn (Sawtell) Harris. He leaves behind his son, Steven Harris of Arizona; his daughters, Christine Harris-Glade of Hawaii and Joyce (Harris) Taylor of Nevada; as well as, 3 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 1:30pm at the Pine Shadows Lodge, 2050 W. Hwy 89A in Cottonwood.
