David A. Dietel of Cottonwood passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 peacefully in his home. He was 79 years old. David was born on July 11, 1934 in Hawkeye, IA to Carl and Nellie Dietel and later served his country in the U.S. Army. David was a deacon at the Cottonwood Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He enjoyed singing in the Verde Valley Voices and portraying \u0027Uncle Drosselmeyer\u0027 with the Verde Valley Ballet and Dance Center. David rode his bicycle daily around town and enjoyed his walks to DDB with his dog \u0027Furby\u0027. His hobbies also included hiking, skiing, gardening, family vacations, cheery campfires and his beloved "Mr. Troll". David was preceded in death by his parents Nellie and Carl. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnn Dietel of Cottonwood; his sons, James (Susan) Dietel of Wisconsin, John (April) Dietel of Minnesota, and Tom (Dianne) Dietel of Arizona; his daughters, Cheryl Abner of Indiana, Julie Sitniewski of Chicago, and Jennifer (Tod) Moore of Cottonwood; his brother, James (Diane) Dietel of Minnesota; his sister, Alyce Nanny of Phoenix; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014, at the Cottonwood Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 51 W. Mingus Ave., Cottonwood, AZ 86326 at 6:30 P.M.
