David M. Severson

David M. (Haboo) Severson, 59, of Clarkdale passed away April 25. He was born April 26, 1950 in Valley City, North Dakota, the son of Wayne and Joyce Severson. Dave attended Coronado High School and Northern Arizona University where he received a Bachelor Degree in Zoology. He joined the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam from May 1967 to June 1968. Dave was wounded in action and received an honorable discharge due to his injuries. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Purple Heart. Dave began his devotion to helping other veterans in whatever way he could. He was Commander of American Legion Post #25 for several years and served for twelve years as a certified service officer assisting veterans and their families with claims and paperwork. In 2002, he received the Outstanding Service Officer Award from the Department of Arizona American Legion. In 2000 he founded the Verde Valley Veterans Transportation, which continues to serve veterans and our community elderly/disabled for medical appointments. He loved motorcycle riding, camping, collecting antiques, fishing, being a husband, father and a grandfather. Dave leaves his wife of 28 years Camile Severson; sons, Eric Severson of Phoenix and Christopher Severson of Tucson; daughters Sarah A. Scott (Matthew) of Cornville, Amber Clark Severson of Phoenix and Tisha Severson of California; brother Mark Severson of Gisela; sister Gail Boyer (Dick) of Phoenix; three grandchildren and two nephews and one niece A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 22 at 1 PM at American Legion Post 25.
