David Tracy Austin, Sr.

David Tracy Austin, Sr., 71, who arrived in Cottonwood in May of 1985 to open the Old Town Palace Theatre, and who recently suffered a broken wrist and injured back on April 7th, died Thursday, May 18, 2006. David T. was born September 5, 1934 in Queens Borough, New York City, New York to Mary Margaret Tracy and William Thomas Austin. He served in the U.S. Army and used his G.I. benefits to graduate from Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas in 1961. He worked for Monroe Industries until 1963 when he joined in partnership with a retail/wholesale fence company in Dayton, Ohio, where he also had an office park and movie theatre. On June 15th, David and his wife, Carolee, would have been married for 46 years. They had one son, David Tracy Austin, Jr. His wife and son will miss his smile, his laughter, and his very presence. He was a good and honorable man who never had a bad thought about anyone; please know that he loved this state, this city, and the people that he met. He never had a bad word about anyone, and he was a generous-hearted man of value, not only to his family and friends, but to this community.
