Dean C. Godown

November 12, 1935 — April 21, 2004

Dean C. Godown, 68, a resident of Sedona, died April 21, 2004. Mr. Godown was born in 1935 in Ravenna, Nebraska. He was raised as a farmer in Litchfield, Nebraska and Winterset, Iowa. He excelled in athletics throughout his youth, especially baseball. He attended Iowa Teacher\u0027s College for two years at Northern Iowa University and Simpson College in Iowa where he played on the baseball team. He married his high school sweetheart Marge Young (class of \u002755) in 1957. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Linda Holcombe of Atlanta, GA; and Shelley Woellmer of Sedona; four grandchildren, Matthew Busker of Atlanta, GA; Melanie Bean of Atlanta, GA; Kendall Woellmer and Kelsey Woellmer of Sedona, AZ; and one great-grand daughter, Jordan Busker of Atlanta, GA. Dean Godown has lived and worked in Sedona for 28 years. During these years Dean has been involved in the community through baseball and softball. Dean was one of the early leaders in the Sedona Community Center; he helped coordinate Little League Baseball and started the Girls\u0027 Softball program. Dean has coached various teams in girls\u0027 softball since 1972 and coached boys\u0027 baseball since 1958. Dean served on Sedona\u0027s Community Center and Little League Boards of Directors, then continued on to become the District Administrator for Little League. Dean\u0027s favorite place was first with his family and second on a baseball field. His life reflected his favorite saying: \u0027\u0027A gifted coach sees the tomorrow in each and every child.\u0027\u0027 He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, and gifted coach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a new girls\u0027 softball field in Cottonwood. To contribute contact Pastor Pam Wagner at Sedona Methodist Church in Sedona. A celebration of Dean\u0027s life will be announced at a later date in the newspaper.
