After 97 years of unconditional love and service our mother, Donnitta “Donna” Mae Rogers Peterkin passed on January 19, 2024. The youngest of 6 from an Arizona pioneer family, she was born on July 7, 1926 in Tucson to George and Emma Miller Rogers. She attended Tucson High School and graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in education. She met our dad, Clair I. “Pete” Peterkin, a law student from Yuma, at the U of A and were married for 41 years until our father’s death in 1991. Her sons, George Roger and John David were both born in the 1950’s in San Fransico, CA. She taught kindergarten, first and second grade for 40 years in elementary schools in Tucson, Richmond, CA, Boulder, NV and Yuma, AZ (Roosevelt). After retirement she became an avid, award-winning quilter and taught classes in the arts of Brazilian and Japanese embroidery and needlepoint, as well as leading a chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Having outlived most of her peers she moved to Cottonwood in 2008 to be closer to her son John “Old Town” Dave and was joined by her other son George a few years later. She will be greatly missed but lives forever in our hearts and memories.
