Dorothy Jean Vaughn/Nickerson, 92 , of Cottonwood died April 24, 2009. She was born on October 29, 1916 in Bagwell, Red River County, Texas. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband Ripley Nelson Vaughn who died December 24, 1972 and by her second husband Orson Le Ross Nickerson who died February 14, 1994. She is survived by her four children, : Lee Nelson Vaughn (Elaine) of Seligman, Steven Arthur Vaughn (Joyce) of Cottonwood, Edna Marie Ahrens of Cottonwood and Ada Louise Stearn (Ralph) of Cottonwood; stepson Don Nickerson (Sandra) of Huntington Beach, California; twenty grandchildren including April Vaughn, Ripley Vaughn, Alexia Calvert, Debra Kessler, Kimberly Hoover, Joel Ahrens, Jae Ahrens, Cindy Eville, Christy Webster and many great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a great mother, friend, confidant to her children who loved her dearly. She has been active here in the Verde Valley. First with her grocery store at Lake Montezuma, and she wrote a spiritual column for the Verde Independent for 15 years; she wrote several songs and books, played music at the hospital, nursing homes, Elk women, Moose Ladies, AARP, Senior Center and felt God gave her the gift of music to share with others. She was strong in her belief of Jesus Christ and she is now playing her music in heaven. A celebration of Dorothy\u0027s life will be held on Friday, May 1st in the Verde Baptist Church at 10 AM. An hour of visitation will be held one hour prior from 9-10 AM. Donations in her memory may be made to Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, the Verde Valley Christian School, 102 S.
