Dorthea "Dottie" Bertha Parker

March 12, 1920 — February 21, 2006

Dorthea 'Dottie' Bertha Parker, 85, resident of Cottonwood, AZ and most recently of Clarkdale, AZ, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006. She was born on March 12, 1920 to Fred Henry Pettit and Mary Florence (White) Pettit in Clinton, Oklahoma. She grew up in Cordell, Oklahoma and was a graduate of Cordell High School. During her young adult years, Dottie moved to California and remained in the state's southern region for over twenty years. While residing in California she dedicated twenty years to GTE, where Dottie started out at an entry-level. Over the years, as a result of her determination and hard work, she steadily worked herself up the Corporate later, and upon her retirement in 1980, Dottie left the company, a valued friend, mentor and Supervisor. After her retirement, she moved once more, making Cottonwood, AZ, and the Verde Valley her final home, where she could be close to family that she had missed dearly. Dottie was an active member of T.O.P.S. and, she remained a faithful life-long member of the Cordell, Oklahoma Eastern Star. She was a lover of flowers, anything of Indian culture, and Crafts. She was a fantastic seamstress; Dottie made all her own clothes and she made numerous articles of clothes for her nieces and nephews, and even the neighbors! She was also extremely talented with crocheting. One of the bedspreads she made took three years to complete, and once it was placed on the bed, there was almost no moving it! This bedspread was a masterpiece! Dottie's nephew entered it into the County Fair, and there, it was given the recognition it deserved! It won Blue Ribbon! The love that went into everything Dottie made is truely what made each item, a masterpiece! Dottie is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and four sisters. Locally she is survived by her niece, Darlene Barringer with her husband, Bill, of Dewey, AZ; and her nephew, James Murphy with his wife, Lori, of Chino Valley, AZ. She also leaves behind several other neices and nephews from out of state. A very special expression of graditute to Les and Sandra Jacobson of Clarkdale, Arizona, who were Dottie's caretakers for the past six years...Thank you for your tender love given, your attention to her every need, the friendship so willingly built, and the immaculate surroundings in which she lived...Thank you for loving her...and thank you for becoming a part of her family that she loved so much. A Memorial Visitation will be held in Dottie's honor on Tuesday evening, February 28, 2006 from 5:30-7:30pm at Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E. Mingus Ave. in Cottonwood, and a Graveside Service will be held the following morning, Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at 11:00am at the Heritage Memorial Gardens Cememtery in Dewey, AZ.
