Ed Gicla

Ed Gicla was born July 21, 1937 in Chicago and died April 8, 2004 in Cottonwood, AZ leaving behind his loving companion and soulmate, Sheila Pfeifer, who moved to Cottonwood with him in June of 1998. Ed also leaves behind his two daughters Teri (Nelson) Fonseca from Deerfield, IL and his two grandsons Jacob \u0026 Louis, and Nicole (Mitch) Krasowski of Greensboro, NC and granddaughter Madeline and another unborn grandchild, and his sister Jackie (Tom) Counihan of Wayne, IL. He will also be missed greatly by Sheila\u0027s children and grandchildren who came to love and admire Ed. While living in the Verde Valley Ed became very active in many groups, such as the Mingus Gem \u0026 Mineral Club, the Verde Valley Fair where he organized the art exhibit with the El Valle Artists Association of which he was a member, the Rim Country Bow Hunters Club, as well as various groups in his Cottonwood Ranch community. Ed had been a printer in Chicago for over forty years as well as foreman and union negotiator. He had also been president of a regional Numismatic Society in the area, as well as involved in many groups, clubs and organizations. Ed loved it here in the Verde Valley and rarely wanted to leave. He was interested in the community and the people and participated in everything he could. Ed made many new friends here and felt this was the best time of his life. Many of us will miss seeing his smiling face, topped by some goofy hat, and hearing his wacky storytelling. He was a warm, witty and wonderful man loved by many. A memorial service is to be held at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, (next to the Clarkdale Post Office) Wednesday, April 14 at 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Northern AZ Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, AZ. Westcott Funeral Home assisted the family with these arrangements.
