Elizabeth A. Dillon, 73, resident of Cottonwood, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2007. She was born August 26, 1933 to Thomas and Wilma (Ware) Dillon in Phoenix, where she grew up and graduated from North Phoenix High School. Elizabeth then attended Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University), where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in 1956. She later completed a Master's Degree in Fine Arts at NAU (1975) and a Master's Degree in Spanish at the University of Arizona (1982). During her career as a schoolteacher, Elizabeth taught subjects including Art and Spanish in Flagstaff; Phoenix; Cabool, Missouri; and Cottonwood. For her 20 years of teaching in Cottonwood, she was known and will be remembered as Mrs. Smith. Her interests included art, traveling, learning languages, reading, volunteering her time to the Cottonwood Public Library and other organizations, following the Arizona Diamondbacks, walking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Elizabeth's artistic abilities were evident in her paintings, drawings and sculpture. Many of her works were displayed in gallery shows over the years. Several of her beautiful pen and ink drawings of historic buildings in Grand Canyon Village were shown there and included in the 1978 publication "A Guide to Grand Canyon Village Historic District" by Timothy Manns. She is preceded in death by her brother, John M. Dillon. She leaves behind her son, Charles T. Eckman of Glendale; her daughter, Kathryn D. Horvath of Tucson; her brother, Joseph L. Dillon of Phoenix; her sister, Patricia J. Dillon of Cottonwood; as well as four grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in honor of Elizabeth's life on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 11:00am at Westcott Funeral Home.
