Elizabeth Shroat Fekke, 86 of Cottonwood, passed away on December 7, 2015. Elizabeth was born to Gilbert and Hazel Shroat in Quintard Hospital in San Diego, California on May 6, 1929. Elizabeth was one of three siblings and was known as "Betty Jo" by her friends and family. She grew up on a horse ranch in National City and Santee, California. She graduated from Grossmont High School in 1947 and then lived in Reno, Nevada for 6 years before moving back to San Diego where she became a school bus driver for Santee School District. She was awarded many trophies for her accomplishments at the school district and school bus rodeos and was promoted to Transportation Supervisor. Betty and her husband, Peter Fekke, a proudly decorated WWII Navy veteran, moved to Glendale, Arizona when he was transferred to the Veterans Hospital. They moved to Cottonwood, Arizona in 1983 when both retired. Throughout her life Betty enjoyed horseback riding, traveling and camping. She loved her family, friends and animals. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Wood; son-in-law John Wood; three grandchildren, Misha Luker, Tanya Wood and Justin Wood; great-grandchildren, Jay Colorado and Hollyn Luker; step-sons Mike Bland and Peter Fekke, Jr and step-daughters Margaret Blackford and Jeannette Fekke. Services will be held on January 23, 2016 at 2:00pm at Faith Lutheran Church, 2021 E. Fir Street in Cottonwood.
