Elizabeth M. Saunders

Elizabeth Mary Saunders,74,of Camp Verde, died on Saturday, July 31st. She was born June 16,1930, in Newark, New Jersey. In her early years, she worked for Standard Oil in New Jersey and ran a riding stable in Upstate New York. She was married to Alex C. Saunders on Feb. 19,1949. They resided in upstate New York where they ran a Girl Scout Camp and she taught riding lessons. In 1959, they moved to California where Elizabeth raised Great Danes and professionally showed them for many years. They moved to Cottonwood,Arizona in 1968, where Elizabeth became active in leading 4-H clubs. She also taught dog obedience classes, horseback riding lessons, and raised animals. She enjoyed riding and raising Arabian horses, raising bloodhounds, gardening, nature walks, exploring the back country, fishing, and hunting. They moved to Camp Verde in 1974,where she resided until her passing. She is survived by daughters: Janis Roberts of Nevada, Iowa, and Jaime Saunders of Ames, Iowa;a son: Karl Saunders of Camp Verde, AZ; brothers: Jack Hayden of Olympia, Washington and Charlie Hayden of Middletown, New Jersey; grandsons Steven Charles Meister O\u0027Donnell of Indiana and Derald Meister of Bullhead City, AZ; granddaughter Raven Sky Saunders-Duckett of Ames, Iowa and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Alex C. Saunders. Funeral services are pending but you may contact the family through [email protected] for more information. She will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia with her husband. Westcott Funeral home is assisting the Saunders Family with arrangements.
