Ernest E. McGinnis, 92, of Cottonwood, passed away January 15, 2013 at Kachina Point care facility in Sedona, AZ. He was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on Aug 8, 1920. He came to Arizona in the early 1940\u0027s to escape the Dust Bowl, eventually settling in the Verde Valley where he remained until his death. Ernest grew up in a poor family with 7 brothers and sisters along RT 66 in western Oklahoma. Coming from the harsh times of the Depression, he always found work to support himself and his family. During his lifetime that work included: picking cotton, delivering ice, pumping gas, mechanic, journeyman baker, carpenter, highway construction and homebuilder. He was also a pastor, who founded and built the original Assemblies of God church in old town Cottonwood. Ernest enjoyed the outdoors--gardening, hunting \u0026 fishing with friends and family. He also enjoyed going to yard sales, looking for antiques and old tools. Ernest is survived by his wife, Lois, 2 children, Dennis \u0026 Joy and 3 grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 sibling, his sister Opal, 97, who resides northern California. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 23 at 11am at the old town Cottonwood cemetery, located at 599 N. Main St..
