Eva L. Johnson, age 96, passed peacefully at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, in Cottonwood, Arizona, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Born March 27, 1915, in Rockford, Illinois, Eva was the daughter of Swedish immigrants Mathilda and Herman Widell. In 1944, she married Donald Gertz. Donald predeceased her in 1963. In 1970, Eva married William Johnson in Rockford, where they resided until retiring to Cottonwood, Arizona, in 1980. Bill predeceased her in 1995. Eva enjoyed retirement in the beauty of the Verde Valley where she was active with church and friends. She was a passionate seamstress, quilter and an avid reader. She is survived by her children: Thomas Gertz (Joan) of Phoenix, James Gertz (Gloria) of Cottonwood, Karen Levinbook of Denver, Colorado; step-daughters Sherry Eklund(Gary)of Ballinger, Texas, and Debbie Zimmerman of Baton-Rouge, Louisiana; 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Eva will be remembered with great love and affection.
