George Edward Burns

George Edward Burns, 79, of Cottonwood, passed away at home on Aug. 2, 2009. Born Aug. 15, 1929, in Flagstaff to Nelson and Althea Burns. Survived by his second wife, Virginia; mother Althea, 103; son, Gary; daughter Roxann Smith; three children by marriage; 10 grandchildren; brother, Tom; twin brother, John; and sisters Mary Hughes and Elaine Hansen. He is proceeded in death by first wife of 45 years, Ida Mai "Jackie," and his father. Graduate of ASU \u0026 NAU, 58-year member of Elks, served in Navy in 1949 on the USS Bairoko CVE115. His career: teacher at Grand Canyon and Creighten Schools; administrator at Ganado, Window Rock, Cave Creek, Ehrenberg and Kingman schools. His retirement years were spent in Cottonwood. He was an active member of Mtn. View UMC. Throughout his life George enjoyed the outdoors with camping, boating, hunting, and fishing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt.
