George A. Nelson

George Arthur Nelson of Cottonwood, AZ, age 85, passed away September 3rd, 2005 after a 25 year battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Whitmore Lake, MI to the late Ila Hoepfl, on July 12th, 1920. He is lovingly survived by his wife Esther V. Nelson (Cottonwood, AZ); son Robert and daughter-in-law Linda Nelson (from Laguna Niguel, CA); son Gregory Nelson and companion Karen J. Leff (from Cottonwood, AZ); son George Jr. and daughter-in-law Linda Jean Nelson (from Kirkland, WA); his two sisters Mrs. Gladys Schlenker (Ann Arbor, MI) and Mrs. Lois Phillips (Calif. Desert); 10 grand children, 8 great grand children and 3 great-great grand children. George loved life, travel, flying as a private pilot, gardening, cooking and interior decorating, and enjoyed most the company of family and friends. He will be missed, but never forgotten by those he touched. He was a patient of Dr. Shillington and thought the world of him. While attending the University of Michigan, George worked as a mortician. A WWII Veteran, he served in the Army Air Corp as a camouflage specialist. He was happily married for 66 years while being self-employed for most of his life. His varied occupations included owning a towing service, a machine shop, and a Chevron gas service station. He later traveled managing several Out-Door Resorts RV Parks, and was a representative for Foretravel RV's. He was a Free Mason belonging to the Mother Colony Lodge No. 750, F.V.A.M. in Aneheim, CA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 10th, 2005 at 4:00 pm at Westcott Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service. Family and friends may send flowers to Westcott Funeral Home and/or it is requested that any remembrances be donated to the American Cancer Society. Contact Gregory Nelson at 928-202-2206.
