Gustavo "Gus" Arango Vargas, 85, of Clarkdale died October 23, 2012 at his home. He was born December 2, 1926 in Durango, Mexico, the son of Augustine and Luz Vargas. He was a graduate of Williams High School and attended Trade School for Mechanics. Mr. Vargas served his country in the Army during World War II. He was self employed and was a pilot, entrepeneur, contractor and family man. Mr. Vargas was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His hobbies include fishing, hunting and flying. His family remembers him as a loving devoted husband, wonderful father and grandfather and excellent friend. Mr. Vargas is survived by his wife of 64 years, Victoria Vargas; a son Alfred Vargas (Janet) of Flagstaff; a daughter Claudia Duran (Michael) of Flagstaff; grandchildren Claudia Vasquez, Michael Vasquez (Janina) of Australia, Timothy Vasquez, Jennifer Vargas, Jeremy Vargas and Jonathan Vargas; great-grandchildren Joshua, Caleb, Taylor and Joseph. He also survived by "great-granddogs", Nuggy, Peso and Diesel; good family friend and trusted co-worker Juan Leon and and honorary family member Randall Wollschlager. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Saturday October 27 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 9:30. The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 AM.
