Harry Way Atkins II

Harry Way Atkins II, 89, of Cottonwood Arizona passed away January 2, 2008. Harry was born July 31, 1918 in Muscatine, Iowa to Harry Atkins and Jennie Catterson. Harry served as a U.S. Army Military Policeman throughout WWII. He was an original member of the Military Police Corps when it was officially formed at Ft, Snelling, Minnesota in 1941. He was among the first troops to be deployed to England where he performed town patrol duty, motorcycle patrol, and base security. After the invasion of Europe he spent time in France, where he worked CID, Belgium, Holland, and Germany as a Combat MP. While in Europe he was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and received several decorations prior to his discharge. Upon his discharge he farmed for several years and drove semi for 10 years until he was injured on the job. After his injury, he spent his time taking care of his grandson and being a positive guiding force in his life. Harry is preceded by his parents; siblings, Larry, Paul, and Pearl; and his first wife of 52 years, Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Harry III; grandson, Harry IV with his wife, Nita; and four great-grandchildren, Harry V, Holly, Audie and Haylee. We thank the Lord for the time we had with him and will miss his stories, friendship, and the guidance he provided. Until we meet again in Heaven as youths in our prime, rest easy my old friend.
