Helen Catherine Carstens, 89, of Cottonwood died August 8. She was born November 7, 1915 in Alvord, Iowa. She was the retired owner of the Little Daisy Motel which was founded by Helen and her late husband August Carstens. She was a member of the Verde Valley Presbyterian Church of Cottonwood. Her hobbies included crocheting, gardening, reading, word puzzles, traveling and canning. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, J. August Carstens, a daughter Ellen Haney, two brothers and a sister. She leaves a son, Carl and his wife Audre Carstens of Ripplemead, Virginia; a daughter Anna Sales of Cottonwood; brothers, Ray Sueverkruebbe of Security, Colorado, Clay Sueverkruebbe of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Robert Sueverkruebbe of Illinois; sisters, Esther Horn of Hastings, Nebraska and Gloria Hall of Des Mines, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 12 in the Westcott Funeral Home from 12 noon -1 PM. A funeral service in the funeral home will follow at 1 PM.
