Helen Louise Varela, age 48, who was born in the Belmont Hospital on May 8, 1960 was embraced into the hands of our Lord on June 20, 2008. She had battled the effects of Multiple Sclerosis for almost 10 years and did so valiantly until she passed away quietly in her sleep with family and friends surrounding her bedside. She was a long time parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and volunteered whenever she could. She was a 1978 graduate of Mingus High School. She also managed to fill a full-time job as co-owner and manager at the Hacienda Inn in Cottonwood. She is preceded in death by her father, Marcelino Varela and is survived by her mother, Vera Varela; sisters, Patricia Santillan, Margaret Gudino, Anna Rodriguez; brothers, Manuel Varela, Joseph Varela, and Daniel Varela; as well as, 14 nieces and nephews and 8 great-nieces and great-nephews. They all loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed. She was known and will always be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and genuinely caring for everyone she knew and loved. Funeral Services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. The Rosary will begin at 10:00am with the Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30am.
