Helen Louise Yeakle

June 9, 1930 — October 6, 2014

On Monday, 10/6/2014, in Cottonwood, AZ, Helen Louise Yeakle (Helen of Troy) passed away. She is survived by her brother RG Miller of OKC, her son Richard E. Yeakle of San Diego, daughter Nancy J. Yeakle of Cottonwood, AZ, and numerous friends and family. While Helen was born in Patterson, NJ 6/9/1930 she and her brother grew up in Troy and Towanda, PA after her mother Agnes (Van Horn) Miller and father Frank Miller divorced. Helen loved to sit and talk about her hometown, her childhood, friends and family. Agnes got sick and died in 1945. "We didn't have it easy when mom got sick and later died, but, we always knew we were loved." In 1960, Helen moved to San Diego. She married Merle W. Yeakle in 1962 and quickly started a family. Helen enjoyed being a mom and loved participating in her kids' lives from bowling and Little League to Girl Scouts. Helen went back to work in the 1970's and managed Burke Marketing Research and Mrs. Fields stores, later baking at Major Market in Mira Mesa. In 1995, Helen became an usher for the San Diego Padres. This was her dream job. She followed the Padres from their beginning in Mission Valley. After 19 years of greeting, laughing and dancing her way up and down her section, #115, she had to retire. She packed up her lunch bag and her sign and moved to Cottonwood, Arizona to enjoy time with her daughter. Helen enjoyed life. She loved her children, her family and friends. Before moving to Cottonwood, Helen developed a passion for theater and "House Concerts", enjoying the music of Tim Flannery and Barbara Nesbitt-to mention only a few. Neil Diamond though was her favorite. Helen had a sparkle in her eye and a skip in her step. She will be missed, but we all know she is dancing with Jesus and smiling down on us! Please join family and friends in San Diego at Admiral Baker Park on November 8, 2014 from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM to celebrate Helens life and how she touched us all. Bring a dish to share and a story to tell. An online guestbook is available to sign at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
