J.A. Baker, 80, resident of Cottonwood, Arizona, passed away Friday, June 23, 2006. He was born on August 29, 1925 to Benjamin and Pearl Baker in Taft, Arkansas. Mr. Baker served his country during World War II as an E-6 Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was the owner of J.A. Baker Construction; building in Sedona, Camp Verde and the Verde Valley. Mr. Baker was an avid reader and an outdoorsman; he enjoyed camping and hunting, one of his favorite pass times was to go fishing at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. He also enjoy woodworking, the Atlanta Braves, and especially spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Darlene Baker of Cottonwood, Arizona; his daughters, Kim Fulps of Arizona, Penny Smith of Arizona, Cynthia Stroud of Colorado, and Shirley Washburn of Rimrock, Arizona. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held at a later date.
