James W. Hargis

July 4, 1955 – February 27, 2023

James W. Hargis of Sedona, peacefully passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife Linda by his side and the love and prayers of his family and friends.

Jim was born July 4, 1955 in Lynwood, California and grew up in Orange and Los Angeles Counties in California with his parents Robert and Bertie Hargis, 2 brothers, Bob and Tom and was part of a very large close family. He met his wife Linda in 1982 and they married in 1984. After visiting Sedona several times in the mid eighties, he and his wife relocated to Sedona in 1989 and soon their daughter Diana and Granddaughter Peaches followed.

He was an accomplished musician beginning his musical training at Age 7 with Classical music for 8 years and adding Rock & Roll, Jazz, Big Band, Blues, Motown and Country performing all over California. Jim also loved Gospel and Latin Jazz.

After moving to Sedona, Jim performed for more than 30 years throughout Sedona and the Verde Valley. He played music in several popular bands including Danny Rhodes and the Messengers, Full Circle, the duo Swing Shift and most recently the Sammy Davis Band. performing with these groups in many restaurants, clubs, private parties, weddings and special events. Occasionally he would also perform as a solo act.

Cooking was also one of his favorite things to do and he looked forward to having family and friends over for a delicious dinner that he prepared. He also liked hiking, day trips to new places and revisiting old ones as well. He loved working on his house and yard using his creative talents to make a beautiful, inviting and loving home.

Jim was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by all.

Memorial Service will be held at Westcott Funeral Home, Cottonwood AZ Saturday April 15^th at 2:00 P.M

A Celebration of Life will also be held at PJ's Village Pub, 40 West Cortez Drive, VOC Sedona starting at 7:00 P.M.
