James A. Murphy, 67, resident of Cottonwood, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006 in Flagstaff, AZ. He was born on May 13, 1939 in Manhattan, New York to James Francis and Cathleen (Cooney) Murphy. James worked for the Manhattan and Bronx surface transit operating authority as General Superintendent of Transportation. James also served his country as a Chief Warrant Officer-4 with the U. S. Army National Guard - devoting 32 years of his life to this organization and retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and he was a member of American Legion-Post 25. James had a variety of interests; of which some included fishing, gardening, model planes, and computers. He was also considered a Historian. James is preceded in death by his first wife, Clorinda. He leaves behind his second wife and bride of 8 years, Irene Murphy of Cottonwood; his son, James Murphy with his wife Julia of New York; his daughters, Lorraine Muller with her husband John of North Carolina, and Patrice Carey of New York; his brother, Terence Murphy with his wife Cathy of New Jersey; his sister, Kathleen Nasse with her husband Ken of New Jersey; and ten grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 700 N. Bill Gray Rd., in Cottonwood, Arizona, on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 1:00pm.
