James -Red- Murphy

James W. "Red" Murphy, 76 of Chino Valley, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 in Phoenix. He was born on December 23, 1936 in Cordell, Oklahoma to Shorty and Lucy Nealy. James attended Cottonwood schools and the Fire Science Academy. He served our country in the Navy during the Korean War. James worked for the Prescott Fire Department as Battalion Chief. He was past Commander for American Legion Post 40, Campground Host for Cattail Cove in Lake Havasu City and volunteered for several special interests and charities. James loved to fish, camping and spending time with family and friends. James was preceded in death by wife Loretta "Lorrie" Murphy and son Flint David Murphy. He is survived by son Keith Murphy (Debbie) of Kansas; daughter Dawn L. Waingrow (Aubrey) of Arizona; sister Sally Barringer (Bill) of Arizona; 8 foster boys; 11 foster girls; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00am at American Legion Post 40, corner of HWY 89 and Road 3 South in Chino Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or the West Yavapai Clinic Foundation, 642 Dameron Drive, Prescott, AZ 86301.
