James Stafford Thomas

James Stafford Thomas, 86, passed away at home at his Cottonwood residence. He was the son of Marion and Muriel Thomas; born October 13, 1922 in Onaway, Michigan. James was a graduate of Midland High School; following which, he attended the Albion College and the Pacific School of Religion. James became an ordained minister and served as Pastor in many states including Michigan, Idaho, Alabama, California, and Arizona. As a Pastor, he also served in countries such as Spain, New Zealand, and Panama. He was one of few who have had the opportunity to visit all seven continents. During his youth, he served his country in the Coast Guard during WWII as a CB Radio Operator; an interest that remained with him throughout his life. He thoroughly enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator. James was also a small craft pilot; a former member of the Chamber of Commerce; a lifetime Boy Scout-having obtained his Eagle Scout; and a member of the Archeological Society. James leaves behind his three daughters, Virginia Kellogg with her husband, Doug of Washington, Alicia Zebra with her husband, John with her husband, Oregon, and Melody Murphy with her husband, Jerry of California; as well as, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Arlene Arla Thomas. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at the Verde Valley Presbyterian Church; of which he was the founding Pastor. Services will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at 4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to the Verde Valley Presbyterian Church, 1500 E.
