Janet Lindsay Mitchell, 86, of Sedona, AZ passed away Friday, January 6, 2006. She was born on September 2, 1919 to Carl and Pauline Linsay in Scraton, PA, where she grew up and graduated from Scraton High School. She then received her Bachelor\u0027s Degree at Maryville College in Tennessee and further received her Master\u0027s at the University of Colorado. She later took additional classes through Arizona State University. Janet started her teaching career in West Florida, teaching economics at a high school level, she did this for one year. She then moved back to Scraton, PA, where she was the Director of Christian Education for three years at the Greenridge Presbyterian Church. In 1945, Janet moved to Navajoland, which is in northeastern Arizona. She taught English, Speech and Drama at Ganado Mission High School for 10 years. While in Navajoland she developed a love for her Navajo and Hopi students and a deep appreciation for the Arizona Indian Country. It was also here that she met and married the love of her life, William \u0027Bill\u0027 Mitchell. In 1955, she and Bill, she moved to Phoenix, AZ, where she dedicated herself again to teaching and directing at the St. Mary\u0027s Episcopal Day School. After 16 years, she took her retirement, and moved to Sedona, AZ. She was a member of the Ganado Presbyterian Church in Navajoland, AZ, St. Mary\u0027s Episcopal Church in Phoenix, AZ, and most recently, St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Sedona, AZ. Janet enjoyed a variety of activities including, reading, art, piano, classical music, needlework, and traveling. Most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She leaves behind her husband and sweetheart of 50 years, William \u0027Bill\u0027 H. Mitchell; her son, SFC Craig (Ingrid)Mitchell, who is currently on active duty with the U.S. Army and serving his country in Germany; her daughter, Sara (Roy) Friesen of Phoenix, AZ; her brother, Carl L. Lindsay of New Hope, PA; her sister, Anne L. Bigart of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandchildren, Dominic, Cassandra and Raquel; as well as many other relatives. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her; Family, former pupils and their parents, fellow teachers, and many friends. There will be two Memorial Services held in Janet\u0027s honor. The first, will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 10:00am at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Sedona, AZ, and the second service will be held Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 11:00am at St. Mary\u0027s Episcopal Church in Phoenix, AZ.
