Jeanette Lyons

Jeanette Lyons was born on March 1, 1938, to Lawrence R. and Dora (Wingate) Barwick in Sumter, South Carolina. As a child, she moved from South Carolina to Louisiana before setting her sites for such western experiences as Boulder, Nevada, Page and many other cities in Arizona, Utah and Idaho before finally finding her niche in this world here in Cottonwood in November of 1999. Yes, Jeanette could be termed a "travlin' girl" who loved adventure and tried to live every day to the best of her ability. On Friday, August 11, 2006, Jeanette accepted her invitation to a meeting with her Higher Power and has now moved on to a happier, softer way of life - free from all pain, suffering, and worry. She will be greatly missed by those who were touched by her presence. She truly was a "Gift on Loan" for sixty-eight plus years. Jeanette was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence; Step-father, M.K. Wilder; brother, L.T. "Tommy" Barwick; and son, Darrell Ray. She is survived by her husband, David E. Lyons, three daughters and their families: Kristin E. Robinson and Lesley H. Lundeberg, Terri A. and Jerrod Willett, and Amie N. Lyons. She will also miss two granddaughters who she was looking forward to getting to know: Audrey and Kay Lee Willett. In addition, Jeanette has a very large extended family, a group of special friends, and more than a few acquaintances far too numerous to mention. Simply stated, Jeanette is loved deeply by those she came in contact with - even if it was only for a short time. Over her life, Jeanette concentrated on helping others. She enjoyed varied positions including customer service, nursing home motivation programmer, home care / hospice nursing, and an awful lot of just plain helping people through difficult times regardless of the situation. Jeanette was happiest when she was cooking and serving large groups of people who were in need. She always was looking for a cause, impossible challenge, or "righting a sinking ship". Her deepest loves were AA and the Club. In many ways, she gave her last breath trying to help others have a better tomorrow. For a time, many of us will mourn her departure. This may be normal but it is not the way Jeanette would want us to handle life from here on. Jeanette believed that she was not going to just dieinstead, she is now FREE to do the things she needs to do without any restrictions. Jeanette's spirit and commitment to others can guide those of us who truly believe in a Higher Power who is in control of all things in His Way and on His time schedule. In life, Jeanette demonstrated that the Hand of Responsibility should always be extended to every one every time. The family's desire is that each of us honor Jeanette's memory by demonstrating what she stood for by living each day as she strived to do and that is to "Help ANY one, any time, any where"! A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2006 at 10:00am at Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E. Mingus Ave., in Cottonwood, Arizona.
