Jesse Goben

Jesse Goben passed away on September 18, 2009 at the age of 89. He was born on April 4, 1920. He was the second child of parents Hugh and Etta Goben who homesteaded near Marshall, North Dakota in 1910. In 1938 the Goben family moved to Peoria, Arizona where Jesse graduated from high school. He joined the Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Salt Lake City from August 1942 to December 1945. Jesse took advantage of offers of tuition payment by attending Radio and Television School in Kansas City. He was hired by RCA to install and repair televisions in Chicago which was a brand new industry at that time and called for good knowledge of the workings of television. In 1948 he married Laura Luth in North Shore Baptist Church, Chicago. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their youngest child\u0027s home in Seattle in 2008. Jesse is survived by his wife, Laura and four children: Hugh F. Goben (Joyce), Nancy Goben Clarke (Stephen), Margaret Goben Mayes (Gary) and Keith Goben (Lisa). There are 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. After Jesse retired in 1983 he took up the enjoyable hobby of making wooden toys. His specialty, toy cars, gladdened the hearts of numerous youngsters throughout the years as they received a car as a gift. Jesse has served as a deacon in various Baptist churches throughout the years as his one way of serving the Lord. Services will be held at Verde Baptist Church on Thursday, September 24 at 3:00 PM.
