Joel Robert Rush Schmid, 21, a resident of Cottonwood, died April 26, 2009, surrounded by his family and close friends. Born in Oceanside, California, but moved to Cottonwood at the age of 3 where he spent the rest of his life. He graduated from Mingus Union High School in 2006. Joel enjoyed all sports starting with soccer at age 5, playing AYSO for 8 years. He played football and wrestled in junior high and high school but returned to his favorite sport of soccer his junior and senior years. Joel was an outdoors kind of guy, he loved hunting and was the happiest when he was camping and riding quads in the woods with his friends and family. Everything he did was to the extreme and he will be remembered for being an outgoing, adventurous young man who lived on the edge and by his motto (Regret Not For Tomorrow May Never Come). Joel is survived by his father and mother, Gregory and Stacy Schmid of Cottonwood; his grandparents Bob and Rosemary Schmid of Cottonwood and Jerry and Sandy Keesler of Delores, Colorado and the extended Schmid and Keesler families and his girlfriend Rebecca Hockenberry. Services will be Saturday, May 9 at 9:00 AM at the Westcott Funeral Home. Immediately following will be a celebration of Joel\u0027s life will be held at the American Legion, 480 S.
