John R. Duckworth

John R. Duckworth, 83, of Sedona died at his home on September 2, 2003. John was born August 11, 1920 in Rural Wayne County, Iowa, to Arthur and Wilhmenia Schreck Duckworth. He receievd his education in Country and Village Schools in Iowa, and later received a degree from the College of the Sequoias in California. In 1941 John enlisted in the US Army Cavalry and served 5 years during Wolrd War II in the States and European Theater. On April 3, 1943 he married Evelyn Bone, they celebrated their 60th Wedding Annivesary in April. To this union a beautiful daughter, Diane Rene, was born. After Johns Army service he served 27 years with the US Air Force in a civilian capacity in many job performances. He received numerous Awards one of which was The Civilian Meritorious Medal. John retired in 1978 and moved to Sedona in 1981 where he resided at the time of his death. John believed, served and was dedicated to God, Country and above all, his family. Preceding John in death were his parents, three brothers, Gerald, Paul and Carl, one sister Carolyn Pozarski. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, daughter Diane and husband John Lilly and four granddaughters Rachel, Erin, Michaela and Ashlynn, all of Scottsdale; one sister Helen Stevenson of Peru, Nebarska, several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Private Burial Committal will be at Christ Lutheran Church Columbarium, Sedona, Arizona for the family. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church Columbarium Landscaping Fund, 25 Chapel Road, Sedona, AZ 86336 or Northern Arizona Hospice, 203 S. Candy Lane, Ste. 10B, Cottonwood, AZ 86326. Westcott Funeral Home of Cottonwood was entrusted with these arrangements.
