John Saxton Fisher, 88, of Sedona, Arizona passed away on February 25 after a 3 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He lost the battle, but won the war in the way he lived his life. He was born on July 28, 1923 to Marie and Guy in Seattle Washington. He attended North High School and Phoenix College. In WWII he served in the Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Breton in the Pacific, where his ship and his brother Peter\u0027s ship passed each other under the Golden Gate Bridge. His 34 year career beginning in 1949 was spent entirely at the Arizona Republic newspaper in the advertising department. After retiring in 1983, he and his loving wife Oma lived amongst the red rocks of Sedona, and were set to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this year. He loved the ocean, and instilled that love in his two sons, Tom and Larry, teaching them how to body surf every summer in California on family vacations. He was very active, enjoying tennis into his 80\u0027s and teaching his two granddaughters, Jennifer and Lauren. He loved watering the flowers with his great-grandson Adam and he gave his namesake and everything that goes with it to his grandson John. He taught his family the importance of tolerance and acceptance of all others, and the sense of fair play, especially for the disadvantaged. Most of all we will miss how hard he could make us laugh along with him. A gathering of his friends will occur on Wednesday, February 29 at his home in Sedona, where his remarkable life will be celebrated. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or to Autism Speaks. An online guestbook is available to sign at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
