John George Leibert

John George Leibert, 79, resident of Cottonwood, Arizona, passed away in Goodyear, Arizona on Wednesday, March 21, 2007. He was born October 31, 1927 in Whittier, California to George Bowman and Marie Nathalie (Goethals) Leibert. John grew up in Riverside, California, which was homesteaded by his parents and four other families. John proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He then returned to Riverside and attended the University of California, where he received his Bachelor's Degree as a Chemist. After which, John worked for the Riverside Cement Plant. It was also in Riverside that he met and married the love of his life, Martha Ann Kirkby. In 1960, John and Martha moved to Cottonwood, Arizona where they raised two sons. John worked as a Chemist for the Phoenix Cement Plant in the Laboratory until his retirement numerous years later. Following his retirement, John dedicated another 9 years with Auto Zone before he finally decided to enjoy his retirement. Upon coming to Arizona John discovered a new interest in bowling-it became his sport! John loved to go hiking and camping, he also enjoyed reading, gardening, and being on the computer. One of his favorite pass times was traveling, especially by train. Many times he and his brother, Pete would travel up and down the west coast; traveling as far North as Canada! John is preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Leibert; three sisters, Theresa Gordon, Patricia Turner and Nathalie Seigel; and one brother, David Leibert. He leaves behind his sweet wife of nearly 55 years, Martha Leibert of Cottonwood; his two sons, John R. "Robert" Leibert of San Francisco, California and Kenneth E. "Kenny" Leibert of Round Mountain, Nevada; his brother, Peter Leibert with his wife, Virginia of La Mirada, California; and his sister, Agnes Jones with her husband, Lee of Riverside, California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held in honor of John's Life on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 10:00am at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
