John A. McDonald

John A. McDonald, 85, of Cottonwood died November 1, 2014 while on a cruise. He was born May 5, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of John A. McDonald, Sr. and Sarah Conner McDonald. He received his Associate degree from Brooklyn College. John served his country as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War. His career was working for the A \u0026 P Food Chain from 1947 to 1976. John then worked for the Bank of New York from 1977 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion where he served twice as Post Commander in New York. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and recently had attained his 4th degree and served in the Color Corps. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as head usher. John enjoyed cruising, reading (especially historical fiction), computing, and visiting family members nationwide. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth E. McDonald; a brother Hugh McDonald and sister Mary McDonald. John leaves son Robert McDonald (Jenny) and their children Robert McDonald, Jr of Orlando, Florida and John V. McDonald of Brooklyn, New York; another son John N. McDonald (Maree) of Flagstaff and their children Joanne McDonald of Phoenix; Caroline McDonald of Flagstaff and her child Leonidas Martin; Kathryn Clark (Marcus) of Tuba City and their children Gabrielle Clark, Lila Clark and Jeffrey Clark; a daughter Kathleen R. Sweeney (Jim) of Port Orange, Florida and a brother James McDonald of New Jersey; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews from coast to coast. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 9 at the Westcott Funeral Home from 3-5 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 10 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10 AM.
