LaVern (Brumley) Lay, age 72, long time resident of Cottonwood , passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2008 in her home surrounded by her loving family. LaVern was born November 5, 1936 in Phoenix , Arizona and was the daughter of Fred M. and Addie Mae Brumley. LaVern grew up in Flagstaff, where she later met married Walter "Buck" Lay. In 1959 she and Buck moved to Cottonwood. LaVern enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing the piano, sewing, painting, traveling with Buck in their R.V., and visiting her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. LaVern is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Walter Lay; she leaves behind three sons, David Lay with his wife, Terry of Cottonwood, Michael "Mike" Lay with his wife, Marla of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Steven Lay with his wife, Shawna of Charlotte, North Carolina; one daughter, MaryAnn Baker with her husband, Kelly of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; her sister, Betty Jean Williams with her husband, Thomas of California. Eleven grandchildren, Angela, Joey, Corey, Shannon, Jennifer, Kristen, Travis Matthew, Alyssa, Chelsea, and Tyler; and one great-grandchild, Tucker also survive her. LaVern was a faithful life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In her honor, Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Hombre Drive in Cottonwood . The Funeral Service will begin at 10:30am with a 1-hour prior viewing and visitation. Following which, LaVern will be laid to rest beside her sweetheart in the Cottonwood Cemetery.
