Lois Vivian Starz

Lois Vivian Starz, 86, of Cottonwood died April 7, 2010. She was born February 28, 1924 in Harmony, Minnesota. Lois was the third of five children born to Frederick Dennstedt and Ida Bruflodt Dennstedt. She was a graduate of Harmony area schools and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Minnesota in 1945. Mrs. Starz was a teacher in the Renville Schools and the Harmony Area schools. For the past 33 years, she was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church where she was part of the handbell and vocal choirs. She held many leadership positions in the church during this time. Before moving to Cottonwood, Mrs. Starz belonged to the Harmony United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and held various offices in the United Methodist Women Organization, including District offices. She also was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Minnesota Rural Letter Carriers Association. Her lifetime hobbies included knitting, sewing, family, reading, sports, travel and music. Lois was well loved by all of those she touched near and far, and will be remembered for her laughter, joy for life, and chocolate chip cookies. She will be remembered always. She leaves behind her husband Roderick of 63 and a half years; a son David Starz (Rita) of Baytown, Texas; a daughter Sally Starz (Ken Johnson) of Morgan Hill, California; a brother Charles Dennstedt (Marietta) of Harmony, Minnesota; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Roderick Dennstedt Starz (Denny), brother Frederick Dennstedt, and sisters Francis Wilschke and Eleanor Torvik. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 13 in the Mountain View United Methodist Church (Cottonwood) at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mountain View United Methodist Church, 901 S. 12th Street, Cottonwood, AZ 86326 or Northern Arizona Hospice, 1200 North Beaver Street, Flagstaff, AZ 86001.
